For this installation of paintings Elise Adibi uses essential plant oils and oil paint to explore two senses—sight and smell—and create an intersensory environment. The essential plant oils, used in aromatherapy, are ephemeral but mixed with the oil paint they become embodied. By using smell and sight, Adibi’s installation makes us aware of the mutual becoming between viewer and object, and the necessity of seeing the paintings in person.
