Graphite Paintings

Graphite is a pure form of carbon, an element essential to all organic life. The root of the word, graph comes from graphos which means in Greek, “something drawn or written.” The grid is a graph. In my paintings over the years, I have used graphite in many forms, as a solid (pencils) as a dry powder (graphite powder) and as a wet pigment (graphite paint). Charcoal, which is made from burnt wood is also a form of carbon.
